LIBERTY, NY — On Friday, June 6, a proud group of 27 kindergarteners attending Sullivan BOCES took a significant step forward on the path to becoming lifelong learners, as they were honored during a graduation ceremony at the Rubin Pollack Education Center.
As tradition seems to dictate, the momentous event began with a processional in which the young soon-to-be grads walked down the aisle and were seated in rows next to their classroom teachers.
Assistant elementary school principal Barbara Henderson led the array of students, instructors, parents and guardians in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by executive principal Megan Becker’s words of welcome.
“Today is a joyous occasion, a time to celebrate the accomplishments, growth and boundless potential of our little graduates,” said Becker. “From that very first day of school to today, we have witnessed remarkable transformations, the blossoming of friendships, and countless moments of curiosity, learning and discovery.”
She continued, “As we applaud today’s achievements, let’s remember that this is just the beginning of our graduates’ educational journeys. Ahead lie new adventures, exciting challenges, and endless opportunities to learn and grow. Let’s continue to cheer them on, nurture their dreams, and empower them to reach for the stars.”
And to the graduates, Becker said, “Your future is bright, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish.”
With that, the soon-to-be-minted grads took their places in front of the audience to perform a musical number titled “Thank You,” under the direction of Gonzalez.
As the spirited musical production drew to a close, Henderson’s address first focused on the parents and families, before moving on to the kindergartners.
“To our parents and families, thank you for your love, encouragement and partnership. Your support makes all the difference, and we’re so grateful to have you as part of this journey,” she said.
And to the rows of K-kids, “Kindergartners, as you move into first grade, stay curious, stay focused and keep giving your best. You’ve already shown us how capable you are, and we know you’re just getting started.”
Then it was time to meet the graduates, who each sported kid-sized blue and tasseled mortarboards. They took center stage as the elementary school’s executive principal and assistant principal took turns awarding them certificates signifying graduation from kindergarten.
The event closed with a traditional recessional march.
