State police make arrest in Hideout shooting

SALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police, Honesdale Barracks, has announced the arrest of Lucas Gartrell, 26, of Lake Ariel, following an active shooter incident that left one dead.

At approximately 3 p.m. on September 28, troopers responded to a report of an active shooter incident at The Hideout, a residential community in Lake Ariel. Upon arrival, troopers located the accused in the vicinity of the shooting and took Gartrell into custody without incident.

Two victims were transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton and are listed in stable condition. A Hideout security officer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wayne County Coroner's office on Tuesday, September 30 identified the security officer as Jose Alberto Duran, Jr., 55; the office said Duran was responding to the report of an active shooter, and was shot multiple times in the line of duty. 

The Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating this incident. Additional details will be released as they become available.
