State Police investigate a fatal structure fire in the town of Mamakating

MAMAKATING — On March 18, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., troopers from State Police Wurtsboro barracks responded to a report of a structure fire on Linda Lane in the Town of Mamakating.
 
Upon arrival, troopers were advised by the Bloomingburg Fire Department that an individual was believed to be inside the residence. After the fire was extinguished, responders located a deceased male within the home.
 
The preliminary investigation determined that a neighbor heard a loud noise outside and then observed the residence fully engulfed in flames. The neighbor immediately contacted 911.
 
The fire is believed to have originated in the vicinity of the kitchen. The sole occupant, identified as Yitzchak Vann, age 64, of Bloomingburg, New York, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
Fire departments from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Bloomingburg Fire Department, Wurtsboro Fire Department, Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Summitville Fire Company, Westbrookville Volunteer Fire Company, Bullville Fire Company, Pine Bush Fire House, Circleville Fire House, Walker Valley Fire Company, and Otisville Fire Departments.  Mamakating EMS, Rock Hill EMS, Hatzolah EMS and the Sullivan County Paramedic also responded.
 
At this time, no evidence of criminal activity has been identified. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
