FALLSBURG — On September 22, 2025 Fallsburg Police Detectives received a report from the Village of Monticello Police Department of a past sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Fallsburg. The victim reported to police that she had been sexually abused on multiple occasions in the Town of Fallsburg that continued in the Village of Monticello.

Upon further police investigation, Luis Romero Arriaza, age 37 of South Fallsburg, was arrested on November 18, 2025 and charged with rape in the first degree and predatory sexual assault against a child, both felonies. Luis Romero Arriaza was arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Scheinman and was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail.

The defendant is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at later date. Fallsburg Police Detectives were assisted in the investigation by detectives from the Village of Monticello Police Department and Village of Liberty Police Department.

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
