I don't know about you, but I cannot listen and read at the same time. What that means is that if you're talking to me and I'm reading something on my phone, my ears turn off and I miss the whole of what you are saying.
So it makes sense that the shorter way to do something is to do one thing at a time.
But that doesn't necessarily mean that what you are doing is simple.
I'm in rehearsal with the Sullivan County Community Chorus, which is performing Mozart's Requiem on June 14 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Memorial Episcopal Church in Ellenville.
The music is crazy hard. It's a piece that is in seven parts, with solo voices and a 25-piece orchestra. There are times when everyone is singing something different, with parts coming in and going out in different rhythms.
Altogether, though, Mozart probably couldn't have written it if he were paying attention to anything else at the time.
Me? Even when I am single-minded about singing my Alto 2 part, I struggle. Did I mention it's in Latin as well?
It's going to be a great concert, in a historic church with great acoustics.
It's something to experience, for sure. Single-mindedly.
