MILFORD, PA — GAIT will launch its next seven-week therapeutic riding session on Monday, March 2. The program is “a positive and supportive experience where participants can connect with horses and explore personal growth,” GAIT said.
GAIT’s mission is “To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs through equine activities and therapies, resulting in a more independent life in society.”
In each 30-minute weekly lesson, a PATH International-certified therapeutic riding instructor and a team of trained volunteers teach basic horseback riding techniques to control the horse’s movement, such as walking or stopping.
The rhythmic, multidimensional act of riding provides therapeutic benefits, including physical development (improvements in balance, posture, trunk control, motor function and coordination); and cognitive and social skills (fostering increased attention, communication skills, spatial awareness and socialization).
“Therapeutic riding is a wonderful opportunity for participants to have fun, make new friends, and work toward their personal goals in an engaging way,” the center said.
All new participants must complete a program application before their first lesson. Returning riders must renew forms annually. Forms are available on gaittrc.org or by visiting www.bit.ly/46LD2om.
GAIT is located at 314 Foster Hill Road.
To register or learn more, call 570/409-1140 or email info@gaittrc.org.
