MONTICELLO — Members of the Village of Monticello Police Department arrested Johnnie C. Wallace Jr., age 42, of Monticello on Friday July 4th, 2025. Wallace was charged with the felonies of Criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, Criminal use of a firearm in the 2nd degree and reckless endangerment in the 1st degree.
Wallace was arrested following an investigation of shots being fired on the grounds of the Catholic Charities rehabilitation center property located at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Jones Street in the Village of Monticello, which occurred on Saturday June 7th at 7:30 P.M.
Monticello Police were able to identify Wallace after a review of video surveillance, which showed Wallace in possession of a black 9 MM handgun and then firing a total 8 rounds into the air, before fleeing on a bicycle. There were no reported injuries.
Wallace was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action. Monticello Police were assisted in the investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff Office.
The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person arrested in presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
