SILVER LAKE TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY— On September 16, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police, Gibson responded to a residence on Donovan Road for a report of a deceased woman. Upon arrival, Troopers located Andrea Lynn Vail, 76, deceased inside the residence. Michael Sean Jones, 46, was located outside the residence.

The investigation determined that Jones and Vail were involved in an argument inside the residence on the evening of September 15. During the altercation, Jones allegedly assaulted Vail, causing her death.

Jones was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, New York, where he remains hospitalized under police supervision. The Troop R Major Case Team was activated to investigate the incident. Members of the Troop R Forensic Services Unit and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist Unit processed the scene. The Susquehanna County District Attorney’s Office approved a charge of Criminal Homicide against Jones. New York State Police assisted with obtaining a Fugitive from Justice warrant.

The investigation remains ongoing.
