Protecting small business means protecting families

As a mother, I will always want the best for my child. Every mother wants to see her children safe, happy and successful. I have had the privilege of watching my son build and run his own small business, and I know how much work and sacrifice goes into keeping a business running.

Running a small business is never easy. There are successes to celebrate, but there are also challenges, setbacks and unexpected threats that business owners must navigate.

One of those threats is cybersecurity. That is why I was so pleased to see Congressman Rob Bresnahan taking action to protect small businesses like my son’s. Congressman Bresnahan recently put forward legislation that would require the Government Accountability Office, or GAO, to evaluate federal cybersecurity assistance available to small businesses. The study would examine cyber risks and vulnerabilities, review current federal initiatives, and identify shortcomings in existing efforts to prevent and mitigate cyber threats.

For some, this may sound like another piece of legislation in Washington. For me, it is personal. My son’s business represents his hard work, his livelihood and the future he is building for himself. A cyberattack is more than a technical problem. It can threaten everything a small-business owner has worked so hard to build.

As a mother, I feel safer knowing my congressman is thinking about these threats and working to make sure small businesses have the resources they need to protect themselves. Rob Bresnahan understands that protecting small businesses means protecting families and communities.

I am proud to have a congressman who is fighting for businesses like my son’s and working to protect the future they are building.
