MAMAKATING — On March 23, 2026, at approximately 10:40 a.m., troopers out of State Police Wurtsboro barracks responded to a one-car motor vehicle collision on State Route 17 westbound in the town of Mamakating.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 Honda was traveling west on State Route 17 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway onto the northern shoulder and struck a guide wire. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, traveled across two lanes of traffic, and subsequently struck the center median guide rail.
The driver and sole occupant, identified as Teresa Petitti, age 39, of Port Jervis, NY, was extricated from the vehicle by passing motorists. Troopers performed life-saving measures prior to emergency medical services arriving. Petitti was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the State Police at Middletown at 845-344-5300 and reference RMS number NY2600395823.
