NORTHEAST PA — PA Sports announced that the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) has become the 14th member of the agency for sports tourism in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Poconos is a premiere destination for outdoor recreation with many miles of trails, rivers and lakes as well as well-known sports camps, a news release reads. The region is home to Pocono Raceway, which will play host to NASCAR Cup Series stars (who will head to the Pocono Mountains next summer for a 53rd consecutive year on Sunday, June 14, 2026).
The region also features six ski resorts that offer all levels of terrain for boarders and skiers every winter. “Convention spaces in the mountains have become popular for team sports and competitions with venues like Kalahari Resorts & Conventions providing great amenities for large groups,” the release continued.
“For generations, the Poconos has been a destination for families looking for adventure and four full seasons,” said Chris Barrett, president/CEO of the PMVB. “We have seen everything from triathlons to the annual NASCAR race weekend at Pocono Raceway. Our winter downhill sports make for exciting competitive events as well as recreational thrills. We’re excited to be a part of PA Sports, which helps boost the industry across the commonwealth.”
“The Pocono Mountains region is already a well-known travel destination, and their wide range of sports venues and outdoor experiences will greatly enhance the impact of sports tourism across the commonwealth,” said Danielle Vincenti, chair of PA Sports and director of business development for the Hershey Harrisburg Sports and Events Authority.
