Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 524—the NEPA chapter of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada—endorsed Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti’s campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District against Republican Congressman Rob Bresnahan.

The union is throwing its support behind Cognetti because they know she will stand with organized labor, fight for good-paying jobs and advocate for workers and their families in Congress.

“The decisions made down in Washington impact the lives of our members and their families every day,” said Pat Dolan, business manager for Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 524. “When we elect candidates who champion workers’ rights, they support legislation and policies that benefit our workers, whether by strengthening our right to organize, creating jobs, or improving working conditions. We need a representative who will stand up to special interests and fight for working Pennsylvanians. Paige Cognetti has proven that she can do that as Mayor of Scranton and we know she will bring that fight for workers to Congress.”

“Local 524 has a long and proud history in NEPA, fighting for workers and their families for over a century. I am honored to have their endorsement in this race,” said Cognetti. “In Scranton, I have stood up to those who have used their status or title to enrich themselves at the expense of the public. In Congress I will fight to protect workers’ rights, pass the PRO Act and create an economy that works for everyone.”

Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 524 represents a membership of over 800 members employed by Mechanical and Plumbing contractors throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. Local 524 organizes workers to protect members from unjust and injurious competition, secure fair contracts and benefits, and encourage apprenticeship and trade advancement.
