This letter is in response to the fear-inducing letter posted recently about crime coming to our area if Paige Cognetti is elected to Congress.  That author has obviously not been paying attention to what Paige Cognetti has done to improve Scranton, i.e., taken on special interests, battled corruption, eliminated cash payments and cut costs as she led the City of Scranton out of a 30-year distressed financial period.  

She balanced the books and encouraged new businesses to come to Scranton.  Jobs and home ownership have increased.  She put new police on the streets and added new police cars.  

She is transparent and wants to fight special interests in Washington and self-serving politicians. She’s committed to putting her constituents first, and apparently the people agree.  She won 77 percent of the vote.  

What experience does Rob Bresnahan have?  What has he done for his constituents? Has he had even one town hall to meet his constituents? No.

I recommend that the author who’s accusing Paige Cognetti of bringing crime to NEPA check out Congressman Bresnahan’s voting record.  He promised to put constituents first, make insider trading illegal and preserve Social Security and Medicare.  He has broken multiple promises and votes the way Donald Trump tells him to at the expense of his constituents.  In fact, two weeks ago, he voted to cut Social Security and Medicare!  

Because of his votes, we are at risk of losing our rural hospitals, and risk cuts to SNAP, Medicaid and Medicare.  When these cuts go into effect after the midterms, our area will suffer and people will be desperate.  This is not an exaggeration.  

We need a Congressperson who has a spine and who will stand up to bullies and do what’s best for us.  Paige Cognetti will make a great Congressperson.
