NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA — While some votes remain to be counted, preliminary results from election night show Jeff Olsommer with a roughly two-to-one lead over Robin Skibber in the race for the 139th District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

As of 11:30 p.m., Olsommer leads with 67% of the tallied votes. According to electionreturns.pa.gov, as of that time he has 25,927 votes to Skibber's 12,559.

Olsommer, a Republican, is the incumbent for House District 139. He won the seat in a special election held this past April, defeating Skibber in that contest and defeating primary challengers to run in the general election.

The seat became vacant in February, with the resignation of Republican and former Wayne County Commissioner Joe Adams.

Speaking at a polling site in Blooming Grove, Skibber said that the campaign has been "exhausting, but it's rewarding, [and] somewhat frustrating." She said she encountered fatigue from potential voters who were tired of seeing anyone knocking at their door.

"There's a lot of really passionate people, and a lot of people have opened my eyes to things you don't think of," she said.

Elsewhere in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the race between Matt Cartwright and Rob Bresnahan for the 8th Congressional District remains close, with Bresnahan squarely in the lead.

As of 1 a.m. on November 6, Bresnahan leads with 183,42151% of the vote, with 191,401 votes cast to Cartwright's 183,421.

Cartwright, the incumbent in the seat, first took office in 2013.

Bresnahan released a statement claiming victory at 1 a.m. on November 6.

"I am humbled and honored by the trust the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania have placed in me to serve as their voice in the House of Representatives," said Bresnahan. "I sincerely thank Congressman Matt Cartwright for his many years of service. While we may not always agree on how to best serve, I know he has always acted in what he believes is the best interest of Northeastern Pennsylvania. I am eager to get to work for our district, and I give my word that as their Congressman, there will be no R or D next to my name—only N-E-P-A. We will bring back opportunities, stand up for our values, and fight for a brighter future for our communities."

"It's been a long, hard campaign," said Cartwright, speaking at a polling site in Blooming Grove.

He said he's had good interactions with constituents on the campaign trail; "People are nice in Northeastern Pennsylvania," he said. He added he had more than one person thank him for sticking his neck out and running, and that, "I can't tell you how much I appreciate it when I hear things like that."

These are preliminary results, and are subject to change.
