During her State of the State address, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul spoke about affordability. I guess that’s something. But after years of rising costs and families leaving New York, words just aren’t enough.

Upstate families need lower energy bills, which is why I’ve introduced the Utility Ratepayer Bill of Rights.

We need affordable housing and safe communities, which is why I fought for and passed a residential construction tax exemption and why I have always stood with law enforcement and pushed back against dangerous bail reform.

And we need real economic opportunity for all New Yorkers, which is why I’ve fought so hard to protect taxpayers as well as local business owners and farmers.

New York’s affordability crisis is real, and it’s sending our fellow New Yorkers to more affordable states. But the good news is that it is man-made by Democrats and therefore reversible.

Unlike Kathy Hochul, I am not just paying lip service to the challenges we New Yorkers are facing. I fight for change every single day. Together, we can make New York truly affordable. Now let’s get to work.

Sen. Peter Oberacker (R,C-51)
Albany, NY

Oberacker, affordability
