No Kings in the Upper Delaware

UPPER DELAWARE RIVER VALLEY — Thousands of Upper Delaware River Valley residents took up their signs and slogans on Saturday, June 14, joining millions across the nation in protesting under the banner of “No Kings.”

The nationwide day of protests was organized to counter a military parade held that same day in Washington D.C., organized by President Donald Trump’s administration on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States military. The parade also took place on Trump’s birthday.

According to a statement from nokings.com, “On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.”

“No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like,” the statement reads.

Unofficial estimates from Alt National Park Service claim that over 12 million people nationwide attended No Kings protests.

In the Upper Delaware, events took place in Monticello, NY and in Honesdale and Milford, PA.

Unofficial estimates held that over 1,000 people attended the Monticello event, and that over 300 attended the Honesdale event.

According to Lt. Thatcher with the Honesdale Borough Police, the protests there were peaceful. “They weren’t causing any issues or anything,” he told the River Reporter
