MILFORD, PA— Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced the guilty plea of a New York resident for attempting to engage in sex with a minor. Robert Poirier, age 35, of Vernon, New York pleaded guilty to the charges of Criminal Attempt to commit Statutory Sexual Assault—being 11 years or more older, Criminal Solicitation—Sexual Abuse of Children, and Unlawful Contact with a Minor, all felonies.
According to the affidavit of probable cause supporting the charges, Detectives at the District Attorney’s Office obtained information that Poirier was willing to travel to Pike County to engage in sexual contact with a fifteen-year-old female. During the electronic communication where Poirer set up this meeting, he asked for nude pictures of a minor and send an unclothed picture of a body part of his. When Poirier arrived at the location detectives arrested him. In his possession detectives found a bookbag with condoms inside of it.
Poirier is facing a maximum of 27 years in a State Correctional Facility. Poirier is scheduled for a sentencing hearing before the Honorable Gregory H. Chelak on January 8, 2027. Judge Chelak ordered the State Sexual Offenders Assessment Board to evaluate Poirier to determine if he meets the statutory criteria as a sexually violent predator. Under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law Poirier will be required to register with the Pennsylvania State Police for the rest of his life if he resides, is employed or attends an educational institution in Pennsylvania. If he resides out of state, he will have to abide by that state’s law.
The case was investigated by the Pike County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
