HONESDALE, PA — The NEPA chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is collaborating with the newly opened business Owl & Friends to offer parents education, support and community all in one place. NAMI has been offering its Momma Bears support group meetings at no cost to individuals affected by pre- and post-natal mental health struggles since 2022, and has recently teamed up with Owl & Friends. This creates a meeting space that is specifically for parents of children who are ages infant to five years old.
According to NAMI, these groups are vital, given that one in five women experience a mental health disorder in the months before or after giving birth. The vast majority of these mothers never get care, according to an article published to the Association of American Medical Colleges website.
Momma Bears support group meetings will be held at Owl & Friends on the second Thursday of each month at noon. The next meeting is scheduled for March 13.
Information about NAMI’s resources to help individuals living with mental illness and their families is available at www.NAMINEPA.org and NAMI NEPA on Facebook and Instagram.
