LIBERTY — On March 12, 2026, Liberty Police Officers responded to a residential facility, in the Village of Liberty, for a reported sexual assault in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that an elderly female resident, had been sexually assaulted inside her room. The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Following a swift investigation, officers identified the suspect as Marc Kogon, 65, of the Town of Neversink. He was located at his place of employment in the Town of Mamakating and taken into custody without incident within 4 hours of the initial report.
Marc Kogon has been charged with one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a felony. He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Justice Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of bail.
Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the law and are not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial. It is the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
