Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay is honored to receive the endorsement of City of Middletown Police Chief John Ewanciw for her 2026 reelection campaign.
“Assembly Member Kay has demonstrated a proactive commitment to supporting law enforcement and enhancing public safety in the 100th Assembly District,” Chief Ewanciw said. “She doesn’t just talk about backing the blue; she takes action. She has been an instrumental partner in advocating for the modernization of our courts, specifically by helping to bring back and expand virtual arraignments. This tool is crucial for saving taxpayer money on travel costs, increasing efficiency and allowing officers to spend more time on patrol rather than in courthouse waiting rooms.
“Furthermore, Paula understands that public safety needs funding. She has actively secured funding to modernize police facilities, ensuring officers have the equipment, staff and environment to do their jobs effectively and safely.
“Perhaps most importantly, as a former prosecutor, she understands the broken components of our current criminal justice system. She is actively sponsoring and supporting legislation that restores judicial discretion, requiring judges to set bail to keep dangerous offenders off our streets and protect crime victims.
“Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay is a true partner to law enforcement and a dedicated public servant who puts public safety over politics. I urge residents to support her re-election this November.”
Ewanciw transferred to the City of Middletown Police Department in 2000 from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division. He’s held the positions of police officer, patrol sergeant and narcotics sergeant, and bureau commander, before becoming chief in 2017, focusing on improving the overall quality of life for the citizens of the City of Middletown.
