SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The board and staff of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Sullivan County, the local affiliate of the National NAMI honored Aileen Gunther with a dinner at Solaia in Monticello on May 6. Gunther retired from the New York State Assembly last year and chaired the Assembly’s Mental Health Subcommittee for many years. In addition to Gunther and representatives of the board of directors and staff of NAMI Sullivan, also in attendance were Melissa Stickle, Sullivan County Deputy Director of the Sullivan County Division of Health and Human Services, and Jean Gallagher, Gunther’s former legislative aide. A plaque was presented to Gunther, which read: “In recognition of her unwavering vision, dedication, and advocacy on behalf of those living with mental illness and their families. Her many years as the Assembly Mental Health Subcommittee Chair were defined by a wealth of knowledge, caring and compassion for the entire mental health community in New York State.”
