Let’s protect ENERGY STAR

Posted

The Trump administration has told EPA staff that it plans to dismantle the ENERGY STAR program before the new fiscal year begins on October 1. This means ENERGY STAR in its entirety, including product standards, building certifications, and the program’s Portfolio Manager benchmarking tool, are at immediate risk.

Like you, we would be deeply disappointed to see this critical resource disappear. Over its more than 30-year history, ENERGY STAR has helped American consumers and businesses save more than $500 billion in energy costs.

Time is limited to block this proposal through Congressional intervention, and  you can help by contacting your U.S. Senators and Representative to urge them to fight to help protect ENERGY STAR.

Here’s how you can take action:

Call your legislators’ offices urging them to support ENERGY STAR. (Names and phone numbers are listed below.)

If you don’t have time for calls, emails are also effective. The USGBC is creating a customizable email template you can send to your legislators and tell them how your business, company or household uses or relies upon ENERGY STAR. Check www.usgbc.org.

While we cannot predict what will happen next, we have the opportunity today to collectively voice our support for the ENERGY STAR program. Congress must hear loud and clear from this community that this proposal is unacceptable if we are to succeed in protecting it. Please join us today to make your voice heard. Reach out to publicpolicies@usgbc.org  with any questions.
