LIBERTY, NY — The Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE) program is a new offering from Cornell Cooperative Extension that celebrates healthy aging and educates older adults on a variety of topics. This free program is open to anyone aged 60 or older.

The program offers one lesson per week over six weeks that covers a wide range of topics. Participants will have an opportunity to meet new people and learn about the aging process and how to make healthy lifestyle choices, learn about the benefits of older age, and discuss risk factors and behaviors older adults should avoid to stay healthy.

Participants will also learn how alcohol, prescription medications and over-the-counter medications affect seniors differently and how they can avoid problems, and learn more about your health and the health care you receive using simple tools.

The WISE program is a collaboration between the Caregiver Resource Center and SALT at CCE Sullivan and is supported by grant funding from New York State, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Classes will be held on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting January 27, 2025 and will be held weekly through March 3, 2025. Lunch is included. Register at www.sullivancce.org/events.

For more information, call Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s Caregiver Resource Center at 845/292-6180 ext.122 or email sullivancrc@cornell.edu.
