At Stony Creek Farmstead in Walton, NY, farming isn’t just our livelihood—it’s our responsibility. We raise livestock and produce food with care because our customers expect quality, transparency and integrity.
The Save Our Bacon Act and the Food Security and Farm Protection Act do not align with these values. These bills would override state agricultural standards and prevent states like New York from setting rules that reflect local priorities and consumer expectations.
New York farmers work hard to meet standards that support animal welfare, environmental stewardship and food safety. Removing a state’s ability to enforce those standards would undermine the trust local farms have built with their communities. It would also favor large, consolidated operations that can absorb market shifts more easily than small, family-run farms.
Communities like Walton depend on independent farms to sustain local economies and bolster food security and transparency. Policies that weaken state authority accelerate consolidation and make it more difficult for small producers to compete.
We urge our representative, Josh Riley; Sen. Chuck Schumer; and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to protect local control, preserve fair competition and ensure that family farms remain central to New York’s agricultural future.
