LAKE ARIEL, PA — The Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation announced that it has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Scranton Area Foundation (SAF) as part of the Tomorrow’s Leaders Today 2024–2025 grant cycle.
The funding will support Lacawac’s environmental education initiatives, helping to expand hands-on learning opportunities that inspire the next generation of environmental stewards, scientists and community leaders, the organization said. “Through immersive outdoor experiences, STEM-based programming, and leadership development activities, Lacawac engages students in meaningful exploration of the natural world while building critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving skills.”
The Tomorrow’s Leaders Today grant cycle focuses on supporting initiatives that positively impact youth and strengthen the future of the region. SAF’s contribution will directly enhance programming that fosters leadership development and environmental responsibility among area students.
Founded in 1966, Lacawac Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental research, education and preservation. The organization stewards over 700 acres, including forests, wetlands and the glacial Lake Lacawac. Through school programs, public education and community initiatives, Lacawac connects people to nature and promotes lifelong environmental stewardship, the organization said.
