DAMASCUS, PA — Farm Arts Collective artistic director Tannis Kowalchuk has been awarded a grant from the Anonymous Was a Woman environmental art grants (AWAW) program and the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), which provides one-time grants of up to $20,000 to support environmental art projects led by women, transgender and gender-nonconforming artists from the United States and U.S. territories.
A grant of $15,000 will support Kowalchuk’s series “Dream on the Farm.”
Kowalchuk conceives of and directs one new play annually in collaboration with the Farm Arts Collective ensemble of theatre artists, writers, musicians and farmers. “Seeing work about climate change and environmental responsibility on a farm that feeds thousands of people each week is a poignant reminder of what we all risk to lose,” she said.
The 27 projects were selected from 1,206 applications.
