Kids today use more than 40 apps, with thousands more added to the App Store every week. As a grandmother and small-business owner, I know how overwhelming it is to keep up. I should not have to spend my nights worrying about what my grandchildren are seeing on their phones.
That is why I am grateful that Sen. John Fetterman co-sponsored the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA, S. 1748), which would give parents better tools to manage settings, screen time and privacy on the platforms children use every day.
KOSA gives parents control inside apps. But families also need protection before an app is ever opened. That is why I support the App Store Accountability Act (S. 1586), championed by Pennsylvania’s Rep. John Joyce, to help stop online harm before it reaches children and return power to parents.
Under the App Store Accountability Act, no app would reach a child’s phone until a parent says yes. That gives families room to decide what is appropriate based on their values, not Washington’s or Silicon Valley’s.
John Fetterman has shown he is willing to stand up for kids online. Now I urge him to finish the job and support the App Store Accountability Act.
