Kay announces Women of Distinction

Posted

Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay joined Sen. James Skoufis (D-42) at Women’s Recognition Night to honor her awardees, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Cheryl Crumley and Town of Wallkill Commissioner of Public Works Michele Baker as Women of Distinction.

“Lt. Crumley and Commissioner Baker are outstanding members of our community—local, determined and successful in non-traditional fields. Sen. Skoufis has also chosen two women to be honored.

The awards were presented on March 13 in Middletown, NY.

Lt. Crumley has a 22-year career protecting the people of Sullivan County. She was the first to achieve her rank in the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and was recently awarded the Sheriff Colleen O’Neill Award, given to an outstanding female deputy who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to the advancement of the office of sheriff. She was recognized for her work as a crisis negotiator, as well as her command of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department’s youth division. She is the past president of the  State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.

Commissioner Baker’s three-decade career includes being the first woman to serve as Commissioner of Public Works in both the town and in Orange County. Baker has been instrumental in securing funding for major infrastructure improvements. As the town’s chief grant administrator, she helped obtain approximately $37 million in state and federal funding to upgrade roads, water and sewer systems, parks and community facilities without increasing costs to local taxpayers.

“I believe these strong women are shining examples of dedicated public servants who make our lives safer and better every day,” Kay said.
