Joint investigation finds money, cocaine and more on Monticello man

HONESDALE — The Pennsylvania State Police Troop R Vice Unit and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office-Detectives Unit conducted a joint drug sales investigation with Agencies in Sullivan County New York, between March 2025 to June 2025.

According to the criminal complaint, controlled purchases of cocaine were conducted with Bernett Vereen, AKA Bernie, 36 from Monticello, NY. During the investigation, contact was made with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department Gang Intelligence and Narcotics Unit, where additional controlled purchases occurred in Sullivan County, NY with Vereen.

On June 25th 2025, Agencies in Sullivan County arrested Vereen on charges related to the sales. During the arrest, cocaine, drug packaging related items and US currency was discovered. Vereen was arraigned in Sullivan County, NY on drug related charges. A Wayne County warrant was issued for Vereen and he will be extradited to Wayne County following Court proceedings in Sullivan County, NY.

On July 7th 2025, Vereen was arraigned by MDJ Dunsinger, Vereen was released in $100,000 bail, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16th.

The Agencies involved are as follows, Sullivan County Gang Intelligence and Narcotics Unit, Sullivan County Sheriff Deputies and K9 Country, Village of Monticello Police Department, Village of Liberty Police Department, Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, Bethel Constabulary, Homeland Security Investigations, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Muller and K9 Maverick.

All those accused are innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law. Criminal charges are often reduced, withdrawn or dismissed on criminal matters.
