Iran war is not about patriotism

I write in outrage over Donald Trump’s newest Iranian adventure. We are again asked to trust the judgment of one who speaks admiringly of strong men like Vladimir Putin but who effectively abandoned Ukraine in its hours of need.

That is not strength. It is moral confusion masquerading as strategy.

At the same time, he has allowed Benjamin Netanyahu and his hard-right, unrestrained Israel to drive American policy in the region. An Israel that continues to resist a genuine two-state solution for Palestinians cannot be the sole architect of the U.S. approach—especially when a durable peace in Gaza and the whole Middle East depends on it.

New Yorkers understand the human and financial costs of foreign misadventures. Please don’t let appeals to patriotism draw you into becoming a supporter of the next “Trump War.” True patriotism demands debate, constitutional process and restraint—all missing here—not impulsive alignments and endless conflict.

This is Trump’s ego-driven conflict. Not America’s.
