FALLSBURG — On February 23, 2025, the Fallsburg Police Department responded to an apartment building in Hurleyville for a reported stabbing.

Upon police arrival, a female suspect was detained as she was leaving the scene. Further investigation revealed the male victim had sustained multiple lacerations to his arm. The victim reported that he received the lacerations from a butcher knife wielded by his neighbor, the detained female, Tanyell Burnett.

Burnett was transported to Fallsburg police headquarters for further police investigation. Burnett was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and assault in the second degree, a felony. Burnett was then arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Kaminski where she was released on her own recognizance and is due back in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at a later date.

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
