Elemental music from the Weekend of Chamber Music

HONESDALE, PA — The Cooperage Project is proud to partner with the Weekend of Chamber Music to bring world-class chamber music to Honesdale.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 13 at the Cooperage Project on Main Street. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

“Elemental” is described as “a program of music fueled by the earth in all its fury.” It includes Vivaldi’s “Summer Concerto,” Berio’s “Wasserklavier,” Füsun Köksal’s “Shadows and Light,”  “Now, the Fire,” by Andrew Waggoner, co-artistic director for the Weekend of Chamber Music, and much more.

Tickets cost $30 at the door; the cost is $20 for students and seniors. Masks are required in the building, regardless of vaccination status, due to high COVID-19 transmission rates.

Hike to learn the signs of fall

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Take a hike and learn the science behind the season.

It takes place on Sunday, November 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pocono Environmental Education Center in Dingmans Ferry.

They’ll explain why animal behavior changes, why the leaves turn, and why fall is the best season to get outside.

The cost is $5 per person.

‘Blackdamp’ at SUNY Sullivan

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — It’s a raw story about rural poverty, autism, and how a single mother struggles to cope with it all.

SUNY Sullivan presents Bradley Diuguid’s play in staged readings at 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 10 through Saturday, November 13. A performance on Sunday, November 14 begins at 2 p.m.

The play will be performed in the college’s Seelig Theater, while simultaneously streaming live on YouTube.

“Blackdamp” is directed by SUNY Sullivan adjunct professor Nick López. The assistant director is Brianna Worden, a founding member of New Visions Inclusive Performing Arts Company, an emerging theater company composed of theater artists that have been a part of SUNY Sullivan’s theater program.

Masks are required for all campus visitors. Tickets are a suggested donation of $10 to the SUNY Sullivan Theater Program/Performing Arts Club.

How did they bake on a heritage farm?

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — Did you know that Pyrex glassware has been around since 1919 and Bisquick Baking Mix since 1931? Explore the differences in baking from the early 20th century to modern times with Cathy Russo and Penny Coombe.

The event takes place on Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m. at the Time and the Valleys Museum in Grahamsville.

Russo and Coombe have created the new Heritage Farm Baking Book for the museum.

Coombe will discuss meal preparation in the 1920s to 1940s, and Russo will explain how to interpret and understand early recipes and what to do when the recipe doesn’t give you the baking time or temperature.

Taste-test recipes, look at early cookbooks and kitchen items, and much more. Bring your own heirloom recipes.

The book sells for $15 for non-members ($12 for members) and is a fundraiser for the museum.

Hudson Cooper at Crawford Library

ONLINE — Actor and author Hudson Cooper will tell his story online at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, courtesy of the E.B. Crawford Library in Monticello.

“My Life as an Author, Stand-up Comedian, Actor,” will trace his journey through television, movies and books.

Cooper appeared in “Law and Order: Criminal Intent,” “Madam Secretary,” “War of the Worlds,” “The Taking of Pelham 123,” and more.

Security and situational awareness training for retailers

ONLINE — The Department of Homeland Security, working with the Pennsylvania State Police, the FBI, the Secret Service and other organizations, will hold a seminar for store managers on Tuesday, November 16 on security and situational awareness during the upcoming holiday season.

The training lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and is free of charge.

Topics covered include a review of active shooter protocols, response to suspicious packages, counterfeit currency, retail payment fraud, reporting suspicious activity, and more.
