Every day, our first responders in New York State risk their lives to save our families, assist our neighbors and ensure our communities are safe. On National First Responders Day, held on October 28, we honor these courageous individuals and thank them for the sacrifices they make for us.
Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and 911 dispatchers. These are the first responders who are there for us during the most difficult times of our lives. During times of crisis, they answer the call, arrive at the scene of medical emergencies and are ready to assist when people need help the most. Every day, their professionalism, dedication and bravery help to keep the Hudson Valley safe.
But we have the opportunity to not only celebrate first responders on the national level, but on the local level as well. In addition to National First Responders Day, there are individual opportunities to honor first responders every day. First responders dedicate long hours to their mission, often face life-threatening situations and carry the weight of countless ongoing challenges.
Beyond our first responders, we should thank the family members as well. Many of their loved ones get in the car and head off to work not knowing when they will come home and what they will face along the way. The support, comfort and patience of family members are part of what it takes to sacrifice for our communities.
On National First Responders Day, we commend the brave men and women who, whenever called, do not hesitate and often do so unselfishly. Their sacrifices serve as a reminder that serving and protecting our communities is more than just a profession; it is a promise to neighbors, to loved ones and to our shared communities.
To our first responders working in New York State, thank you for your strength, your commitment and your sacrifice to protect others. Your communities are safer, and your people are stronger because of you. We are grateful to you and are here to support you each and every day.
