As a recent resident (two years) and a member of the Wayne County Democrats, I was really happy to participate in the Honesdale Jaycees Halloween parade.  The Dems’ float was themed “We Believe in Science,” and one of our members rode in the truck bed with a “science experiment” occurring on the table in front of him.  So many kids along the route responded to him as “It’s Bill Nye!” or “That’s so cool!” 

It was a reminder that we need to encourage that curiosity and enthusiasm for science in our kids.

I was one of the walkers/runners handing out candy to the ghouls and goblins along the parade route.  I was so impressed by how many of the kids said “Thank you,” unprompted by their parents standing behind them.  Many of the costumes were clever and others were so cute.  Well done, parents!

Congratulations to the Honesdale Jaycees and the Borough of Honesdale for putting together a wonderful, family-friendly and safe Halloween parade.  Our Dem committee is already thinking about stepping up our float for next year’s parade.
