Giveaway bag reminds us to shop locally

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The hamlet of Livingston Manor has had a banner year, writes the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce. The group notes that new shops and eateries, as well as well-loved standbys, have welcomed more visitors than ever who understand that shopping locally makes our community thrive.

To thank everyone for their support, to remind people how important it is to spend holiday dollars on Main Street, and to celebrate the season, the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce has created a unique tote bag to give away.

On Sunday, December 5, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., go shopping in Livingston Manor. Once shopping (or eating) at Main Street stores and restaurants is finished, bring receipts and purchases to Sunshine Colony and get a free bag.

Shoppers must show they spent at least $75 in town on December 5.

There are 200 bags to give away on a first-come, first-served basis. One per family.

“The classic design and pocket size evoke an era of simpler times in small towns full of friendly mom and pop businesses,” writes a chamber spokeswoman. “Simple times are alive and well in Livingston Manor, thanks to our hard-working shop and eatery owners and our supportive community.”

For more information, visit the chamber’s site at https://livingstonmanorny.com/.

New book showcases Dutch interiors

NARROWSBURG, NY —  It’s a celebration of Dutch homes, from canal houses to eco-friendly spaces, that have been brought into the 21st century. And still they hold the Dutch style and sensibility—something that Americans can create in their homes.

Aaron Hickland and One Grand will hold a book-signing party for Barbara de Vries’ “Coming Home, Modern Rustic: Creative Living in Dutch Interiors,” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 at The Barn, 108 Main Street, across the street from Narrowsburg Feed and Grain Co. The event is open to the public.

De Vries grew up in a converted Dutch windmill—a wedding present from her father to her mother. She began her career in fashion as a model in Paris, moved to London to study and work in fashion design. In 1990 she moved to New York and worked for Calvin Klein. Later, with her husband author Alastair Gordon, she created illustrated books on design and lifestyle.

“Coming Home, Modern Rustic: Creative Living in Dutch Interiors” by Barbara de Vries, © Rizzoli New York, 2021, is available at One Grand and other retailers.
