Listening through the disconnect

One of my convictions that I never stray from is the belief that if people of various political viewpoints collectively work on a local challenge, they will come up with a better solution than if one side does it.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense to me that change comes from listening and starting a dialogue with people with whom we don't agree. Or as Jane puts it, we do well to listen and start a dialogue with the people we think are doing something we don't believe is right.

Insisting we are right assumes that there is only one perspective to approach a challenge. Certainly, we all know that there is more than one way to look at something.

It's something to remember. And, like Jane, it's helpful if we remain curious and look for the connections between us as we explore and understand the differences.

Thanks, Jane, for a life well lived!

Jane Goodall, listening, change
