MONTICELLO, NY — Brian P. Conaty, Acting District Attorney of Sullivan County, announced that a jury rendered a guilty verdict today following a two-day trial of Milso Pineda-Monroy, 23, of Monticello. The jury convicted Pineda-Monroy of Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony.
The arrest stemmed from an investigation headed by the Town of Fallsburg Police Department with the assistance of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. The jury found that on September 20, 2022, Pineda-Monroy intentionally stabbed another individual in the heart with a pocket knife following a dispute at the Gulf gas station located in South Fallsburg. The victim sustained serious physical injury and was flown to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.
The evidence at trial included testimony from various law enforcement officers, various civilians, medical records, and video evidence secured from the Gulf gas station. Pineda-Monroy will be sentenced on November 6 where he faces up to 25 years’ incarceration in state prison. This case was prosecuted at trial by Assistant District Attorney William Varade.
“Acts of violence such as those demonstrated by this defendant have no place in Sullivan County. I want to thank all law enforcement personnel and medical physicians involved for their diligence. If it wasn’t for their prompt response and actions this could easily have been a murder,” Conaty said.
