Greenwood calls on Bresnahan to step down

Posted

Former Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood—who represented Pennsylvania for more than a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives—called on Congressman Rob Bresnahan to immediately resign from office following major new reporting that revealed Bresnahan admitted on audio to speaking directly with his financial advisor about his stock “positions” while actively voting on legislation in office.

“Congressman Bresnahan’s own admission that he discusses his stock positions with his financial advisor is a red line that should never be crossed by a public official and a clear abuse of power,” said Greenwood (R, PA-08). “It has become clear that Congressman Bresnahan is using his office to benefit himself rather than the Pennsylvanians he was elected to represent, and he must resign immediately. I proudly represented Pennsylvania as a Republican in Congress for more than a decade, but taking on corruption and restoring trust and integrity to the people’s House is not a partisan issue. Republicans, Independents and Democrats should come together and say with a united voice that it is unacceptable for our elected officials like Congressman Bresnahan to profit off their votes in Congress.”

Greenwood represented Pennsylvania for six terms in the United States House of Representatives between 1993 and 2005. Greenwood is a lifelong Pennsylvanian and Republican.

Greenwood’s call for Bresnahan’s resignation follows new reporting from POLITICO that uncovered audio of Congressman Bresnahan admitting that he has had conversations with his financial advisor about his stock portfolio while serving in office.

During a telephone town hall last year, Bresnahan lied directly to northeastern Pennsylvanians when he said: “I do not have any dialogues with my financial advisers.”
