HONESDALE, PA – The Greater Honesdale Partnership (GHP) and the Dessin Animal Shelter invite the community to the Honesdale Duck Derby—on Saturday, August 1, from noon to 2 p.m. at Sycamore Point Park.
Bring the entire family for an afternoon of live entertainment by Jace Matthews, great food provided by Cub Scout Troop 105 sweet treats, by Nothing but Fruit and plenty of excitement as hundreds of brightly colored ducks race down the Lackawaxen River in support of two great local organizations.
The festivities begin at noon with live music, delicious lunch and refreshing sweet treats available for purchase,.
At 12:45 p.m., the ducks will be released from the Church Street Bridge, racing down the Lackawaxen River toward the finish line at Sycamore Point Park. Participants will have the chance to win a variety of fantastic prizes while cheering on their ducks in this fun-filled community event.
Every duck purchased helps support the missions of both organizations. Proceeds from the Duck Derby benefit the Greater Honesdale Partnership's community revitalization initiatives, while also supporting the lifesaving work of the Dessin Animal Shelter, which provides care, shelter, and adoption services for homeless animals throughout the region.
"This event is a wonderful example of what makes Honesdale such a special community," said Sandi Levens, executive director of the Greater Honesdale Partnership. "Families come together for an afternoon of fun while supporting two organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for both our community and the animals that depend on us. We encourage everyone to join us for a memorable day at the park."
Ducks may be purchased for $5 in person at Sycamore Point Park until 12:30 p.m. on race day.
Join us on Saturday, August 1, for an afternoon of music, food, family fun, and one exciting race down the Lackawaxen River!
