NARROWSBURG, NY — The organizers of the Repair Café Tusten want to keep old appliances, jewelry and more household items out of the landfills and back into working condition.

The next Repair Café Tusten takes place on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Tusten Town Hall, 210 Bridge St., under the Tusten Theater.

“Can we beat the 243 pounds that were kept out of the landfill in May thanks to our fabulous volunteers?” the organizers ask. “I think we can! Our volunteers are a rockin’ bunch! We are there to help and bring your beloved items back to life while bringing our community together.”

This is a free event, although donations will be accepted. Attendees might be charged if their repair requires a purchased part.

Coaches can help with the following items. Limit of two (clean) items per person:

Small appliances;

Jewelry;
Sewing, hand and machine;
Things wooden;
Mechanical items;

Lamps;
Electrical;
Things knitted and crocheted;
Screening (bring the unit, the new screen and the spline, which holds the screen in); and
Plant and garden advice.

“Sometimes your item becomes a consultation, or advice, or you might be sent to get supplies needed to have it fixed,” according to the organizers. “We are sure you will enjoy your interactions with our terrific team of fixers.”

No microwaves will be accepted, unless the issue is related to a broken door or cord. Nothing gas-powered or labeled “smart” will be accepted. Plastic items are “hit or miss.”

Attendees are asked to bring a canned or boxed donation for the Ecumenical Food Pantry.

More information can be found on the Repair Café Tusten Facebook page or by calling 845/252-6783.
