Frazier supports ‘Let Them Build’

NYS Senate candidate Michele Frazier (D-51) joined municipal leaders throughout New York in supporting Gov. Kathy Hochul’s “Let Them Build” proposal to reform and accelerate the housing project approval process.

“The governor’s ‘Let Them Build’ initiative is a smart and sensible approach to speeding development of the affordable housing our communities so desperately need. It’s a win-win package that will provide more housing, faster and at a lower cost, without sacrificing environmental protections,” said Frazier.

The proposal was introduced at the governor’s 2026 State of the State address, and is specifically designed to streamline the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) process to expedite approval for badly needed, affordable housing projects of 100 units or less, on previously undisturbed land.

A review by New York City and New York State Homes and Community Renewal, covering the last five-to-10 years of over a thousand housing projects, found that virtually none of the projects were found to have significant environmental impacts, but nevertheless were still subject to lengthy reviews.
