Farmers own land with solar farms

Regarding the article “NY GOP candidate for Gov. rallies against renewable energy development” (River Reporter, August 6-12):

In addition to the oft refuted false claims contained in this article, something else stands out:

The farmland they purport to protect; doesn’t it belong to… farmers?

Thanks in large part to the policies of current administration, farmers are under extreme financial duress. Between the tariffs that decimated their markets, the increased costs of fertilizer and fuel thanks to the utterly pointless attack on Iran, a country that was nowhere near a nuclear weapon, the destruction of USAID (where do you think the food we sent came from?) and, yes, climate change, mightn’t farmers be happy to lease their land to a solar farm, especially if they would get free power out of it?

Most importantly, isn’t it their decision?

We are just one little house, but our solar panels provide more power than we use, and the excess goes back into the grid, generating electricity for our neighbors, and generating income for us. All without an ounce of pollution.

Imagine what a whole solar farm could do, especially for a farmer who chose to welcome one onto their property.
