This week's quote has me musing on the difference between revenge and retribution.
In our common understanding, revenge is a personal, emotional response to being wronged. It is motivated by anger, resentment, or a desire to "get even."
Retribution is the idea of just punishment for wrongdoing, usually within a moral or legal framework. It’s not about personal anger, but about fairness and justice.
From Gandhi's perspective, neither of these definitions right the wrong that has been committed. He advocated for reconciliation and restorative justice and ways to end cycles of violence.
For most of us, ending violence and division is something that we can all strive for.
