NARROWSBURG, NY — Upcoming local elections, Gerard’s Café, the Two Queens Coffee & Tea Shop—there are so many new and exciting things happening in Narrowsburg these days that sometimes it’s hard to step back and appreciate what got us here in the first place.

Narrowsburg’s latest fall festival, Logging Days, takes on that challenge on November 2 and 3 at Fireman’s Field on DeMauro Lane behind the Tusten Theatre. A celebration of the industry that founded our town, it’s sure to be fun for every lumberjack and lumberjill in the family.

The event, sponsored by the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce, will feature 10 competitive events in partnership with the New York State Lumberjack Association. Taking place over both days, the festival will host competitions in axe throwing, hot saw and other oh-my-gosh-how-do-they-do-that challenges.

In other less logging-related fun, the festival includes a fruit-based pie baking contest and a community chili sale. Here are some of the other details:

The logging festival begins Friday night, with local restaurants featuring lumberjack-themed entrees.

On Saturday, in addition to the competitions, there will be vendors, food and live music featuring Poison Love and barbershop quartets. In the afternoon there will be children’s raft making and river launches, as well as “Waste for Life” activities. At 3 p.m., it’s each baker for themselves as the pie-baking contest winners are announced. Trade in your steel-toe boots for ballet flats at 7 p.m. for the Lumberjack Dance at the Narrowsburg Union. 3 Peas Banned will be providing the music. Tickets cost $10. Light food and other refreshments will be available for sale.

Speaking of light food, I don’t think there will be any Sunday morning at the Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast at town hall. Admission costs $10 for adults, $7 for children 6 to 12 and free for younger lumberjacks. They’ll be serving from 8 to 11 a.m. Come early and load those carbs because at 10:30 a.m., the busses leave for a sawmill tour. A visit to the Tusten Settlement Church, a walk to the Stone Arch Bridge and storytelling with Ralph Huebner are also on the schedule.

If you’re a lumberjack and work all day, you’re going to love Logging Days. If you’re not, that’s fine too. There’s something for everyone. Splinter groups are invited to attend as well. Don’t pine for the good time you might miss. It wood be a great idea for anyone looking for a little fun. See you at Logging Days, November 2 and 3 at Fireman’s Field.
