Since 2023, the State Building Code Council has worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for implementing [New York’s] landmark law requiring new construction of small buildings to be all-electric starting in 2026.
Through extensive stakeholder engagement and technical review, the council developed and unanimously approved an updated building code in July—a major step toward cleaner, healthier and more affordable pollution-free buildings, in alignment with New York’s clean energy goals.
We are deeply discouraged by this unnecessary delay, and look forward to this appeal being resolved in a timely manner, so this cost-saving, common-sense, affordability and clean energy measure can move forward.
Every day of inaction slows progress toward safer and more affordable new homes and buildings.
