CLINTON TOWNSHIP, PA — No decision was made at the Wednesday, September 2 meeting of the Clinton Township Planning Commission regarding the data center project set before it. However, the commission indicated that such a decision was imminent.
Clinton Township is currently reviewing a proposal from Linde Corporation for a 700-acre data center campus. Unless the township and the developer agree on an extension, the township has to make a decision on the application within 90 days of the application being submitted; for this project, that 90 days will be up on September 28.
The planning commission met on September 2 ahead of a township supervisors’ meeting of Wednesday, September 9. The planning commission will make a recommendation to the supervisors, who will make the final determination on the project.
The commission voted at its September 2 meeting to extend its own meeting to the evening of the 9th, to occur at 6:25 p.m. before the board of supervisors meeting.
Commissioner Andrew Theobald said that the commission needed more time to review the materials for the project.
“Something I think everyone needs to understand is that, regardless of the decision we make, it needs to be specific,” he said. “If we approve with conditions, we need to have every condition. If we deny, we need every reason for denial, and I don’t think I personally have had enough time to go through these plans and make sure that I have looked at every aspect of this set of plans.”
