TOWN OF COCHECTON, NY — During a meeting on Wednesday, October 14, the Cochecton Town Board discussed a public hearing for a possible override of the town’s tax cap. The override would allow the town board to raise property taxes higher than 2 percent.
The public hearing was set to take place Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cochecton Town Hall, 74 Smales Road. The local law was introduced at a September 23 town board meeting.
Town supervisor Gary Maas said that the town has to pass the local law whether it ultimately overrides the tax cap or not; if not, the town doesn’t have the option to override it.
“Just be aware that this would be the first time in my 17 years that we might override the tax cap,” said Maas.
