LUZERNE COUNTY, PA: Representative Rob Bresnahan and Chelsea Strub took a new step in marriage and service with the launch of their charitable fund, The Greenlight Project, following their wedding which occurred Saturday, August 16.
The Greenlight Project is a long-term investment in the region they love, said Strub: Northeastern Pennsylvania. To establish the fund, Bresnahan has committed to donating $348,000 towards the fund. The Greenlight Project will be administered as a donor-advised fund through the Luzerne Foundation.
“The Greenlight Project is our way of giving back to the region that has given so much to us,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “Northeastern Pennsylvania has been, and will always be, my home. This is more than a donation. It is a commitment to invest in the people, institutions, and ideas that move Northeastern Pennsylvania forward.”
The Greenlight Project reflects the Bresnahans’ deep personal connection to NEPA and their shared desire to give back in a meaningful and lasting way. Each year, The Greenlight Project will feature a unique theme to guide funding priorities. For its inaugural 2025-2026 grant cycle, the theme will be “Bridging the Gap.” Nonprofits serving Northeastern Pennsylvania are invited to apply for grants ranging $2,000 to $8,000, demonstrating how their work helps bridge a gap in the community, whether in access to education, healthcare, housing, opportunity, or support services. Applicants should name a specific, tangible need that funding from The Greenlight Project would help fulfill.
“Our goal is to support those who help our community,” said Chelsea Strub. “The people and organizations who’ve already spotted what’s missing and are out there doing something about it. They’re not waiting for permission. They’re rolling up their sleeves and finding solutions. The Greenlight Project is our way of backing that kind of effort and helping our community get closer to its full potential.”
“The Luzerne Foundation appreciates the generous donation from Congressman Bresnahan and Ms. Strub on the occasion of their wedding,” said David Pedri, CEO of the Luzerne Foundation. “We hope that their incredible act of generosity inspires others to volunteer with or give to the many amazing nonprofits within Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Greenlight Project’s goal of helping those in need directly aligns within the Luzerne Foundation’s mission of being ‘Here for Good.’ The funds from this donation, as well as the contributions of our many other donors, will do just that.”
Rep. Bresnahan is a lifelong resident of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was born in Kingston and raised in Wyoming Borough and Hughestown and later attended college at the University of Scranton. After graduation, he took over his grandfather’s electrical contracting business, Kuharchik Construction, in Exeter.
Chelsea Strub has called Northeastern Pennsylvania home since 2017, but her connection to the region stretches back generations through her mother’s family in Luzerne County.
The Luzerne Foundation works to enhance the lives of Luzerne County residents by evaluating and addressing community needs through strategic grantmaking, promoting responsible philanthropy, and connecting donors to causes that matter to them.
Full details on application guidelines, eligibility, and deadlines will be announced in the coming weeks on the Luzerne Foundation’s website.
