WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Sheriff Christopher Rosler of The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has received over 10 phone calls about scammers contacting county residents demanding money, with scammers warning that county residents will be arrested if they do not pay.
"This is a scam," said Rosler. "Do not give personal information. Do not make arrangements to pay or meet anyone. Hang up!"
According to Rosler, scammers are telling county residents that they have missed jury duty, that there is a warrent out for their arrest, that their spouse or child has been arrested and needs to be bailed out or that they have to pay costs because they didn't show up for court. "It is a scam," he said. "Please, do not fall for any of it. Hang up on them and block the number, and don't answer if they call back."
County residents can contact the (real) sheriff's office at 570/253-2641, and the office can answer any questions residents may have.
"Please do not give out your bank or personal information, and never agree to send money," said Rosler.
