The Wayne County Sheriff’s office has once again received a report of a scam. The scammer called a county resident and provided the resident with a citation number and a federal case number. The scammer stated that the citation was due to the resident missing federal court. 

The resident reported that the citation numbers were not very long and seemed fake. 

The scammer used the name of one of the sheriff’s office sergeants to identify himself. The resident informed the scammer that he knows sheriff’s office staff and that he will gladly come into the office and speak to deputies. The resident asked what time the office is open to, and the scammer stated 5:30. 

The resident stated that the scammer never asked for any money and that he seemed to be sidetracked when the resident said he would come in.

These scammers will use any tactic to get some money from you. I am asking if you receive a call that you think is a scam, to call me at my office, 570/253-2641. 

The scammers recorded a sergeant’s voicemail greeting and used that when they called.
